Sellers Dorsey Welcomes Patrick Gillies, Former Medicaid Director of Louisiana, as Senior Strategic Advisor

Sellers Dorsey is delighted to announce Patrick Gillies, former Medicaid director of Louisiana, will be bringing his knowledge and expertise to the firm as a Senior Strategic Advisor. Mr. Gillies is a seasoned health care executive who has a proven track record of developing and implementing successful health care programs at both state and federal levels.

Most recently, Mr. Gillies served as the Medicaid Executive Director of Louisiana. Under his leadership, the State expanded access to services for pregnant, postpartum, and opioid-dependent individuals. He also oversaw significant efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic, such as stabilizing operations and leading the expansion of the COVID-19 vaccine incentive program. Mr. Gillies’ expertise in health policy and health care operations make him a valuable asset to the team.

“We are thrilled that Patrick is joining our diverse roster of former Medicaid directors,” said Gary Jessee, Sellers Dorsey Managing Director. “His unique skillset and his dedication to improving access to and quality of care resonate with what we do. I can’t wait to see what he will bring to the team.”

Mr. Gillies has demonstrated success in producing measurable outcomes for numerous health care organizations, such as Catholic Health Initiatives, Colorado Access, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. While working for Catholic Health Initiatives as a 340B System Executive, he implemented an extensive contract pharmacy review, generating a 400% increase in revenue. When he was the Divisional Vice President at Colorado Access, Mr. Gillies led a team of 70 professionals who connected over 200,000 Medicaid members to primary care physicians. This initiative increased patient satisfaction ratings by 20%.

“I’m excited to work with others who are as passionate as I am about making impactful changes in Medicaid,” said Mr. Gillies. “I look forward to working with the team to help clients strengthen their health care programs and come up with innovation solutions that pave a way to accessible, exceptional care.”

Earlier in his career, Mr. Gillies worked for the State of Texas for 14 years as the Director of Community Health and Director of Behavioral Health. He earned both his Master of Public Administration degree and bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas Tech University.
