Q&A with Regine Tilghman, Senior Consultant

As a Senior Consultant, Regine handles client implementations and operational delivery for the team in the areas of Medicaid financing and revenue maximization, Medicaid managed care, business development, provider policy, and reimbursement. Her recent background in health care policy as well as her work in Human Services for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania make her a strong asset to Sellers Dorsey clients and other staff.

What brought you to Sellers Dorsey?
Diligent internet job search. I started my career in social services/government/ and not-for profit organizations serving vulnerable, low income communities – similar to the populations that our clients serve. As I learned more about Medicaid and the public health system in general, I wanted to focus my career in health care policy. Exposure at the 30K feet has been particularly interesting because I can glean and get a better understanding as to why state policy makers shape health care industry in their states.

What’s your special area of expertise?
That’s a heavy question. I like to think I am growing my expertise in Medicaid financing.

Who are your typical clients?
I have worked on projects with a large variety of clients including state Medicaid agencies, safety-net hospitals, and a coalition of physician groups.

What have you worked on recently?
Most recently, I have been working with my team to transition a safety-net hospital system to pursue hospital managed care payments.

What do you like about working at Sellers Dorsey?
I enjoy working and interacting with my colleagues. On all projects, everyone is professional, personable, and smart. It’s nice to come to work where everyone gives their all. Although I am growing in understanding the technical process of our work, I appreciate listening to my team’s conversation (especially subject matter experts) to think through strategies that are technical and political.

How has your work changed?
My work really has not changed. My projects may change but my function remains the same, which is keeping my team on track as well as managing client requests and expectations.

What is one important thing you have learned during your time at Sellers Dorsey?
This is a cliché, but I’ll say it anyway – no question is a stupid question. As our projects evolve, I find that I constantly need to go back to the basics and apply it to the problem/ question at hand with the assistance of my team members.

One thing I’d like to share from my experience is how everyone at all levels of the firm is approachable. I have learned from all of my colleagues, which I believe helped me to grow in my position. Interaction with my peers has been one of the keys to my successful experience here, which is different from previous places that I worked.
