Sellers Dorsey is pleased to welcome Alexander Shekhdar as Vice President of Market Development. Alex brings extensive experience in healthcare market strategy, with a strong track record of driving successful market entry and growth initiatives across diverse government programs. His expertise will further strengthen the Firm’s ability to support clients as they navigate the evolving healthcare and Medicaid landscape.
Alex joins Sellers Dorsey from AmeriHealth Caritas, where he served as Director of Business Development. In this role, he was responsible for developing and executing market entry and re-procurement strategies across states nationwide, spanning a broad portfolio of government programs, including Medicaid Managed Care Organizations, Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans, and Health Benefit Exchanges. His leadership helped position the organization for growth in highly competitive and regulated markets.
Prior to AmeriHealth Caritas, Alex served as Acting Administrator of the Office of Medical Benefits Management (Medicaid) at the Maryland Department of Health. There, he managed a team of 75 state employees and oversaw approximately $9 billion in Medicaid spending. His responsibilities included leadership of the state’s Medicaid managed care program, behavioral and dental administrative services organizations, and critical initiatives such as Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic and Treatment services, the Rare and Expensive Case Management (REM) program for medically fragile children, and Applied Behavior Analysis services for children with autism. He also maintained responsibility for compliance and policy related to fee-for-service physician and hospital programs.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Alex has contributed to the development of future healthcare leaders as a graduate school instructor at the George Washington University Milken School of Public Health for more than a decade.
