Improving access to health care has always been a central focus of my career. Early on, I became interested in the policy side of healthcare and the role public programs play in ensuring people can get the services they need. Over the past two decades, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles across state government, research, and healthcare organizations, all centered on strengthening Medicaid programs and improving access, affordability, and quality of care for the populations they serve. That work has been incredibly meaningful to me, and it’s what has kept me committed to this field.
After serving as Medicaid Director for the State of Nevada, I wanted to continue working on Medicaid policy and operations but in a new capacity where I could support multiple states and organizations. Sellers Dorsey’s deep focus on Medicaid and its reputation for bringing together former state leaders and policy experts was a huge draw for me. The opportunity to collaborate with colleagues who have real-world experience running Medicaid programs, while helping clients navigate complex policy and operational challenges, made this the right next step.
To me, impact in healthcare means making the system work better for the people who rely on it. That includes improving access to care, making coverage more affordable, and ensuring programs are designed in ways that lead to better outcomes for individuals and families. In Medicaid, especially, the work we do can directly affect some of the most vulnerable populations, so thoughtful policy, strong program design, and collaboration across stakeholders are all critical to creating real, lasting impact.
One of the biggest challenges right now is the need to rethink traditional funding and delivery models as states face budget pressures, policy changes, and growing expectations around access and quality. Medicaid agencies, providers, and health plans all have to adapt to a shifting environment while still meeting the needs of the people they serve. At the same time, those changes create opportunities to innovate, whether through new delivery models, stronger managed care programs, or approaches that address social and community factors that affect health. Finding sustainable ways to do that will be key moving forward.
I enjoy having the opportunity to work on issues that matter and to support the Medicaid program in a way that can make a real difference for states and the populations they serve. Every project brings a new challenge, and I appreciate being able to work with clients who are committed to improving their programs. I’m especially excited about continuing to learn and grow in this field, because Medicaid is always evolving, and there is always something new to tackle.
I know how to call the hogs — woo pig sooie! Having spent part of my career in Arkansas, I picked up the Razorbacks spirit along the way, and it’s something that has stuck with me ever since.
My first job was working as a lifeguard. It taught me responsibility at a young age and gave me an early appreciation for roles where you’re looking out for the well-being of others.
I love traveling and spending time outdoors whenever I can. Whether it’s hiking, exploring new places, or just being outside, I enjoy activities that let me recharge and experience something different.
One of my favorite books is The House of the Spirits. I’ve always enjoyed stories that explore history, family, and different perspectives, and that one has stayed with me over the years.
