The World Research Group chose Sellers Dorsey healthcare policy experts Pat Brady, Director of Long Term Care, and Kip Piper, Senior Consultant, to speak at the Business of Medicare Advantage Forum 09 in Washington, DC.  Their presentation, "Partnering with State Agencies to Serve Dual Eligibles - Challenges and Opportunities" highlighted the many opportunities and potential drawbacks organizations may face when partnering with States to serve this select and costly group of recipients.  Ms. Brady and Mr. Piper also highlighted several possibilities for streamlining the process and collaborating to achieve goals.

Commenting on the importance of the relationship between Medicare and Medicaid programs, Kip Piper stated, "The nation's 7 million dual eligibles receive over $250 billion in Medicare and Medicaid services.  By partnering with state Medicaid programs, Medicare special needs plans have an extraordinary opportunity to improve quality and contain taxpayer costs".

Pat Brady went on to note, "We had a great cross section of businesses involved in Medicare managed care - technology companies, care management companies, and insurers.  To help understand the marketplace, it was important for the attendees to have a firmer understanding of both Medicare and Medicaid, specifically in the long term care arena.  Our presentation helped increase their knowledge of long term care, explore how they could leverage their current capabilities to help states in their efforts to balance long term care, and learn what states are hoping to accomplish through partnerships with special needs plans".
