PHILADELPHIA, PA – Sellers Dorsey announced today that Pam Coleman and Maureen Long have joined the firm as Senior Consultants. The firm is responding to the growing market for expertise in improving care for individuals requiring long term services and supports, many of whom are also dually eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid. Coleman and Long will lend their combined expertise in applying managed care techniques to the delivery of long-term services and supports as well as integrating Medicare and Medicaid services for the firm and its clients. Coleman will be based in Austin; Long will be based in Philadelphia.
About one-third of national Medicaid spending is for long term services and supports needed by elderly and younger disabled individuals who require assistance with routine activities of daily living. Managed Long Term Services and Supports (MLTSS) refers to the delivery of long term services and supports through capitated Medicaid managed care programs. Increasing numbers of states are using MLTSS as a strategy for expanding home and community-based services in lieu of institutionalization, promoting community inclusion, ensuring quality, and increasing efficiency. MLTSS can be a stand-alone state-sponsored Medicaid program or part of a joint state-federal program designed to fully integrate all Medicare and Medicaid covered services for dually eligible individuals.
“As the population ages, states and their federal partners are increasingly interested in providing LTSS in the most appropriate and cost effective manner. Pam and Maureen will bring additional perspectives for our clients given their knowledge of federal interests, state financing demands, and industry trends,” said Harvey Hurdle, CEO of Sellers Dorsey.
Most recently at OptumHealth, Coleman served as the Vice President of Integrated Government Programs. This followed 26 years serving in various managerial roles at the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, most recently as Deputy Medicaid Director. Coleman is a frequent presenter at national conferences on complex care populations and integrated delivery systems. While working for Texas she administered the Managed Care Operations Department for the state and at Optum she developed short and long term growth and innovation strategies to best serve persons with chronic and complex medical conditions.
As an independent consultant, Long has more than 15 years of experience in both Medicaid and Medicare managed care, integrated care for dually eligible persons, and implementation of MLTSS. She has also held executive positions including General Manager of Mercy LIFE, Director of Geriatric Services for the Lehigh Valley Health Network, and CEO of Keystone Health Plan West.
